Needs-based planning tool
Life Insurance Needs Calculator
Estimate the gap between the financial support your household may need and the resources already available. Every input stays in your browser and is not submitted.
How the estimate works
A transparent starting point
The calculator multiplies the annual household support gap by the years entered, then adds caregiving and household services, mortgage, other debts, future goals, and final or transition expenses.
It subtracts only the verified individual coverage, employer coverage, dedicated savings, and other confirmed survivor resources you enter. It displays the remaining gap without rounding; when entered resources meet or exceed entered needs, it displays $0.
It does not verify any input or account for taxes, legal responsibility, survivor-benefit eligibility, investment returns, inflation, policy costs, underwriting, or every household circumstance. Use the result to compare assumptions—not as an automatic recommendation.
Before you request coverage
- Check the amount, eligibility, end date, and plan rules before counting employer coverage.
- Include unpaid caregiving and household work without counting the same cost inside income support.
- Avoid counting retirement, housing, education, or emergency funds needed for another purpose.
- Compare the gap with an amount, duration, and premium that remain subject to carrier underwriting.
